Symbolism

Bonaire's flag uses blue for the sea, yellow for the sun and flowers, and white for peace and purity. The black compass rose with a red six-pointed star represents the six traditional regions of the island and the navigation skills of its people.

History

Designed by Edson J. Belfor and adopted on December 11, 1981, during Bonaire's time in the Netherlands Antilles. The flag remained in use after the dissolution of the Antilles in 2010, when Bonaire became a special municipality of the Netherlands.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A large blue triangle at the hoist and yellow triangle at the fly separated by a white diagonal band bearing a black compass rose with a red star.
