Symbolism

The black equilateral triangle represents the enterprise and determination of the Bahamian people. The three horizontal bands represent the natural resources of the islands: two aquamarine bands for the sea and a middle gold band for the land.

History

Adopted on July 10, 1973, when The Bahamas gained independence from the United Kingdom. The design was the result of a national competition.

Construction

A 1:2 ratio. Three equal horizontal bands of aquamarine, gold, and aquamarine, with a black equilateral triangle at the hoist.
