Flag of Grenada
Symbolism
Red represents courage and vitality, gold represents the sun and the friendliness of the people, and green represents agriculture. The seven stars represent the seven parishes of Grenada. The nutmeg clove represents the island's status as the 'Isle of Spice'.
History
Adopted on February 7, 1974, when Grenada became independent from the United Kingdom. Anthony C. George's design was selected from submissions by Grenadian schoolchildren, replacing the colonial ensign with a flag celebrating the island's spice industry and seven parishes.
Construction
A 3:5 ratio. A red-bordered flag with four alternating triangles of gold and green. A red disc in the center contains a gold star. A nutmeg clove is in the hoist triangle.
