Symbolism

Red reflects the historic Jersey flag field. The yellow Plantagenet three leopards (lions passant guardant) derive from the arms of Normandy and England, linking Jersey to the Duchy of Normandy. The red triangular crest above the leopards adds a distinct Jersey element to the banner.

History

Jersey's flag was officially recognized by the Queen in 1981, giving the Bailiwick a distinct flag based on its ancient coat of arms. The leopards have appeared on Jersey seals since at least the 14th century.

A 3:5 ratio red field with a yellow shield bearing three leopards and a red triangular crest above.
