Symbolism

White represents peace and prosperity, green represents the Green Mountain (Jebel Akhdar) and fertility, and red represent battles against invaders. The national emblem (Khanjar) features a traditional dagger and two crossed swords.

History

Adopted on December 17, 1970. The proportions were standardized in 1995.

Construction

A 1:2 ratio. Three equal horizontal bands of white, red, and green with a vertical red band at the hoist containing the national emblem in white.
