Yemen vs Syria
Yemen is still a plain red-white-black horizontal tricolor, adopted May 22, 1990, at 2:3. Syria's flag in force is green-white-black with three red stars in the white band, under Article 6 of the March 13, 2025 Constitutional Declaration. The 1980 red-white-black flag with two green stars is retired. Our catalog image may still show that retired flag.

Which flag is Yemen?
The Two-Star Flag Is Retired
Yemen adopted a plain horizontal tricolor of red, white, and black on May 22, 1990, the day North and South Yemen unified. The catalog construction is three equal bands at 2:3, with no stars. Red, white, and black here follow the Arab Liberation palette.
Syria's catalog entry still describes the March 30, 1980 flag: red, white, and black with two green stars. That design was used from 1980 until December 2024. It is retired. On December 8, 2024, the independence flag was raised in practice: green, white, and black with three red stars in the white band. Article 6 of the Constitutional Declaration of March 13, 2025, sets that flag as the flag of the state. This page uses 2025 for that instrument.
If the flag image on this site still shows two green stars on red-white-black, that art is the retired flag. The flag to learn is green over white over black, with three red stars. Yemen stays the plain red-white-black with no stars.
Telling them apart
- Yemen: red top stripe, empty white band.
- Syria in force: green top stripe, three red stars on white, black at the bottom.
- The 1980 two-green-star flag is not the current Syrian flag. Hex chips are reference values, not a Pantone claim.
