Yellow represents the Sultan of Brunei. The black and white diagonal stripes represent Brunei's chief ministers. The red emblem features a crescent (Islam), a parasol (monarchy), and two upturned hands (benevolence of the government).
History
Adopted on September 29, 1959, when Brunei was a British protectorate, and retained when the country gained full independence in 1984.

A 1:2 ratio. A yellow field with two diagonal stripes of white and black. The national emblem is centered.
