Symbolism

Red represents the land and people (the nation), white represents Theravada Buddhism (religion), and blue represents the monarchy. This trinity (Nation-Religion-King) is the unofficial motto of Thailand.

History

The 'Trairanga' was adopted on September 28, 1917, by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). The blue center was reportedly added to show solidarity with the Allies during World War I, who shared similar colors.

A 2:3 ratio. Five horizontal stripes of red, white, blue (double width), white, and red.
