The five stars represent the five original provinces. Blue represents the Pacific Ocean, yellow represents the sun, and green represents the land and its resources.
History
Adopted on November 18, 1977, ahead of independence from the United Kingdom on July 7, 1978. A national competition produced the design, whose five stars represent the five original provinces and whose colors reflect the ocean, land, and sun of the archipelago.
Construction
A 1:2 ratio. Divided diagonally by a yellow band from the lower hoist to the upper fly. The upper triangle is blue with five stars, and the lower is green.
