Symbolism

The design combines elements of the flags of Saint-Martin and Aruba. The triangle shape represents the unity of the island community. Blue represents the sea and sky, red represents courage, and white represents purity and peace among the diverse population.

History

The flag was adopted on June 13, 1985, during the Netherlands Antilles period. It became the country flag when Sint Maarten achieved separate status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10, 2010.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A red-bordered blue field with a white triangle at the hoist bearing the coat of arms, and a red triangle at the fly.
