The red background represents the revolution and the blood shed for the country's independence. The five-pointed yellow star represents the five main classes in Vietnamese society—workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs—working together to build socialism.
History
Adopted on November 30, 1955. It was originally the flag of North Vietnam and became the flag of the unified nation after the end of the Vietnam War in 1976.
