Which flag is India?
A Wheel and a Sun on the Same Three Bands
India's Tiranga was adopted on July 22, 1947, from the Indian National Congress Swaraj flag. Saffron, white, and green stay in equal bands. The navy wheel in the white band is the Ashoka Chakra, and the flag code requires 24 spokes. Pingali Venkayya is credited with the design. Legal proportion is 2:3.
Niger adopted its flag on November 23, 1959. Orange stands for the Sahara, white for peace, and green for the southern farmland. The orange disc is the sun, centered in the white band. The legal ratio is 6:7, so the flag looks short and wide next to India's longer rectangle.
From a distance the palettes can match. Count the charge: spokes mean India, a plain disc means Niger. India's hoist-to-fly length is also clearly longer.
Telling them apart
- India: navy wheel. Niger: orange disc with no spokes.
- India 2:3. Niger 6:7.
- Hex values here are common reference chips, not a claim that either statute publishes a Pantone number.
