Symbolism
Saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white stands for peace and truth, and green symbolizes faith and chivalry. The navy blue wheel (Ashoka Chakra) has 24 spokes representing the endless cycle of life and the dharma (law).
History
Known as the 'Tiranga' (Tricolor), it was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, just before India's independence from the British Empire. The design is based on the Swaraj flag of the Indian National Congress.
Construction
A horizontal tricolor in a 2:3 ratio. The Ashoka Chakra is centered in the white stripe, with its diameter roughly matching the stripe's width.
