Symbolism

Red stands for the Armenian Highland, the Armenian people's struggle for survival, and the maintenance of the Christian faith. Blue is for the will of the people to live beneath peaceful skies. Orange symbolizes the creative talent and hard-working nature of the people.

History

First adopted in 1918 during the short-lived First Republic of Armenia. Banned during the Soviet era, it was officially restored on August 24, 1990, just before independence.
