Symbolism

The blue represents the People's United Party (PUP) and the red represents the United Democratic Party (UDP), together representing national unity. The coat of arms features two woodcutters (one mestizo, one black) supporting a shield, representing the logging industry that was the basis of the economy.

History

Adopted on September 21, 1981, upon independence. It is the only national flag to have more than ten colors and the only one to feature humans.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A blue field with two narrow red horizontal stripes at the top and bottom, and the national coat of arms centered on a white disc.
