Symbolism

The two blue bands represent the two oceans (Pacific and Atlantic) and the sky. The white band represents peace. The coat of arms features a triangle (equality), a Phrygian cap (liberty), and five volcanoes (the five original Central American states).

History

Adopted on September 4, 1908. It is closely modeled after the flag of the United Provinces of Central America.
