Yellow represents the wealth of the land and the sun. Blue represents the sea and sky. Red represents the blood shed by heroes for independence. The coat of arms features Mount Chimborazo and the Guayas River.
History
Adopted on September 26, 1860. The design is based on the flag of Gran Colombia. The coat of arms was added in 1900 to distinguish it from the flag of Colombia.
Construction
A 2:3 ratio. A horizontal tricolor of yellow (double width), blue, and red, with the national coat of arms centered.
