Symbolism

Yellow represents the wealth of the land, blue represents courage and the Caribbean Sea, and red represents independence. The eight stars represent the provinces that supported independence.

History

Based on Francisco de Miranda's flag from 1806. The eighth star was added in 2006 by President Hugo Chávez to represent the historical province of Guayana.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A horizontal tricolor of yellow, blue, and red. An arc of eight white five-pointed stars is centered in the blue band.
