Symbolism

History

Adopted in 1973 after independence was declared from Portugal. The design is based on the flag of the PAIGC party, which led the liberation struggle.

Construction

A 1:2 ratio. A vertical red band on the hoist with a black star, and two horizontal bands of yellow and green on the fly.
