Green represents agriculture and forests. White represents the rivers and water. Gold represents the mineral wealth. Black represents endurance. Red represents zeal and dynamic progress. The flag is known as 'The Golden Arrowhead'.
History
Adopted on May 26, 1966, the eve of Guyana's independence from Britain. American vexillologist Whitney Smith designed the Golden Arrowhead, which was chosen to give the new Co-operative Republic a bold, non-colonial symbol distinct from other Caribbean flags.
Construction
A 3:5 ratio. A green field with a white-bordered yellow triangle and a black-bordered red triangle at the hoist.
