The colors are the Pan-Arab colors. The black represents the Abbasid Caliphate, white the Umayyad Caliphate, and green the Fatimid Caliphate. The red triangle represents the Hashemite dynasty. The seven-pointed star represents the seven verses of the first surah of the Quran.
History
Adopted on April 16, 1928. The design is based on the flag of the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
Construction
A 1:2 ratio. A horizontal tricolor of black, white, and green with a red triangle at the hoist containing a white seven-pointed star.
