Symbolism

Red represents the blood shed for liberation, and white represents peace and the snow-capped mountains. The green cedar tree (Lebanon Cedar) is a symbol of holiness, eternity, and peace mentioned in the Bible.

History

Adopted on December 7, 1943, shortly after Lebanon declared independence from the French Mandate. Designed by members of the Lebanese parliament.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A horizontal tricolor of red, white (double width), and red, with a green cedar tree centered in the white band.
