Symbolism

Green represents hope and the fertility of the land, white represents justice and freedom, and red represents progress and love. The yellow star represents the unity of all ethnic groups and a bright future.

History

Adopted on November 25, 1975, the day of independence. It replaced a previous flag that featured five colored stars representing different ethnic groups.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. Five horizontal bands of green, white (narrow), red (thick), white (narrow), and green, with a yellow five-pointed star centered.
