Symbolism

Green represents the extensive forests of Gabon, yellow represents the sun and the Equator (which crosses the country), and blue represents the South Atlantic Ocean.

History

Adopted on August 9, 1960. It is one of the few former French colonies that did not use a vertical tricolor or the Pan-African colors.
