Symbolism

Green represents nature and peace, yellow represents the country's wealth and the sun, and red represents the struggle for independence.

History

First adopted in 1958. It was replaced by a red socialist flag from 1970 to 1991 during the People's Republic of the Congo but was restored when the country returned to democracy.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A diagonal yellow band separates a green triangle (top hoist) from a red triangle (bottom fly).
