Flag of Niue
Symbolism
Yellow represents the sunshine and warm climate of the island. Blue represents the Pacific Ocean surrounding Niue. The Union Jack in the canton reflects Niue's status in free association with New Zealand, while the four yellow stars represent the Southern Cross constellation visible from the island.
History
Niue's flag was adopted on October 15, 1975, ahead of self-government in free association with New Zealand in 1974. The design was chosen to give the small island nation a visible symbol of its distinct identity.
Construction
A 1:2 ratio yellow field with the Union Jack in the canton and four yellow five-pointed stars arranged in a diamond in the fly.
