Symbolism

The green field represents the Muslim majority, while the white vertical stripe at the hoist represents religious minorities. The crescent and star represent progress and light, central symbols of Islam.

History

Adopted on August 11, 1947, just days before independence. The design is based on the flag of the All-India Muslim League.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A green field with a white vertical band at the hoist, and a large white crescent and five-pointed star centered in the green portion.
