The light blue represents the Pacific Ocean and also the transition from foreign rule to independence. The yellow disc represents the full moon, which is a symbol of peace, love, and tranquility in Palauan culture.

History

Adopted on January 1, 1981. Unlike many other Pacific flags, the blue field represents the 'ocean of the people' rather than the sky.

Construction

A 3:5 ratio. A light blue field with a yellow disc slightly offset toward the hoist.

Color Meanings

blue: The Pacific Ocean and the 'ocean of the people'
