Green represents the agricultural lands, yellow represents the mineral wealth, black represents the Swahili people, and blue represents the Indian Ocean and the country's lakes and rivers.
History
Adopted on June 30, 1964. The design merged the flags of Tanganyika (green, black, yellow) and Zanzibar (blue, black, green) following their unification.
Construction
A 2:3 ratio. Divided diagonally by a yellow-edged black band from the lower hoist corner to the upper fly corner. The upper triangle is green, and the lower is blue.
