Symbolism

History

Adopted on May 1, 1983, replacing the flag used since independence in 1975. The design incorporates the emblem of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and was chosen to represent the socialist People's Republic established after Portuguese colonial rule ended.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio tricolor of green, black, and yellow separated by white fimbriations, with a red triangle at the hoist bearing the national emblem.
