Blue represents the sky and water (and the Timurid dynasty), white represents peace and purity, and green represents nature and Islam. The red fimbriation represents the life force. The 12 stars represent the 12 zodiac signs and the months of the year. The crescent represents Islam and the birth of a new nation.
History
Adopted on November 18, 1991. It was the first flag adopted by a new independent state in Central Asia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Construction
A 1:2 ratio. A horizontal tricolor of blue, white, and green separated by thin red stripes. A white crescent and 12 stars are in the blue canton.
