Symbolism
The colors are shared with Romania, reflecting their common heritage. The coat of arms features an eagle holding a cross, an olive branch, and a scepter, with an aurochs' head on its shield representing the historical principality of Moldavia.
History
Adopted on May 12, 1990. The flag is nearly identical to the Romanian flag, with the addition of the Moldovan coat of arms in the center.
Construction
A 1:2 ratio. A vertical tricolor of blue, yellow, and red with the national coat of arms centered in the yellow band.
