Symbolism

Blue represents the sky and hope, yellow represents the sun and the desert, and red represents progress and sacrifice. The colors merge the French tricolor with Pan-African colors.

History

Adopted on November 6, 1959. It is virtually identical to the flag of Romania, but used a slightly different blue shade initially. Chad's flag has remained unchanged since its adoption.
