Blue represents liberty, yellow represents justice, and red represents fraternity. The colors represent the historical provinces of Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia.
History
The tricolor was first used during the Wallachian uprising of 1821. It was officially adopted on December 27, 1989, after the fall of the communist regime, removing the socialist emblem from the center.

A 2:3 ratio. A vertical tricolor of cobalt blue, chrome yellow, and vermilion red.
