Black represents the African people, red represents the blood shed for freedom, and green represents the land. The blue triangle represents the Nile River, and the yellow star represents the Star of Bethlehem.

History

Adopted on July 9, 2011, the day of independence. The design was originally used by the SPLM during the decades of struggle before the country's formation.

Construction

A 1:2 ratio. A horizontal tricolor of black, red, and green separated by thin white stripes. A blue triangle at the hoist contains a yellow star.
