Symbolism

Green represents agriculture, yellow represents mineral resources and the fruits of labor, and red represents the blood of martyrs. The white star represents life, purity, and the country's independence.

History

Adopted on April 27, 1960. Designed by Ahyi Paul, it was chosen through a national contest.

Construction

A 1:1.618 ratio (based on the golden ratio). Five alternating green and yellow horizontal stripes with a red square canton containing a white star.
