Symbolism

Blue represents the sky and the Atlantic Ocean, red represents the people's heroism and struggle, and green represents the country's agriculture. The white fimbriation signifies peace, and the yellow sun represents life and energy.

History

Adopted on March 21, 1990, the day Namibia gained independence from South Africa. Designed by a committee that reviewed 800 public submissions.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. Divided diagonally by a white-edged red band from the lower hoist to the upper fly. The upper triangle is blue with a gold sun, and the lower is green.
