Symbolism

Red represents the blood of martyrs and the will for independence, yellow represents the sun and the gold of the earth, and green represents the lush vegetation of the country.

History

Adopted on November 10, 1958. Guinea was the first French colony in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence. The design was inspired by the French tricolor using Pan-African colors.
