Symbolism

The white, blue, and red are traditional Pan-Slavic colors. The coat of arms features Mount Triglav, Slovenia's highest peak, three yellow stars representing the historical Counts of Celje, and two wavy blue lines representing the Adriatic Sea and local rivers.

History

The flag was officially adopted on June 27, 1991, following Slovenia's independence from Yugoslavia. The tricolor itself dates back to the 1848 national awakening, inspired by the colors of the Duchy of Carniola.

Construction

A horizontal tricolor of white, blue, and red in a 1:2 ratio. The coat of arms is positioned in the upper hoist side, centered on the boundary between the white and blue stripes.

Color Meanings

white: Purity and Slavic identity
blue: The sky and Slavic identity
red: Courage and Slavic identity
