Symbolism

The white, blue, and red are Pan-Slavic colors. The coat of arms features a double cross representing Christianity and three peaks representing the Tatra, Fatra, and Matra mountain ranges.

History

The tricolor has been used since 1848. The coat of arms was added in 1992 to distinguish the flag from that of Russia when Slovakia became an independent state.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. Three equal horizontal bands of white, blue, and red. The national coat of arms is superimposed on the hoist side, bordered in white.
