Symbolism

The sky blue field represents peace. The yellow star represents the radiant future of the country. The red stripe represents the blood of martyrs, and the yellow fimbriation represents the country's wealth.

History

Adopted on February 20, 2006. The design is based on the flag used between 1963 and 1971, which itself was based on the original flag of the Congo Free State.

Construction

A 2:3 ratio. A sky blue field with a yellow star in the canton and a diagonal red stripe edged in yellow running from the lower hoist to the upper fly.
